Dental Sealants
The unique shape and design of your molars are what allows them to help you chew your food. But that shape and design also make those teeth the perfect hiding places for food debris and plaque that can lead to problems such as cavities and tooth infections. To keep those teeth healthy and strong, call Bright White Dental at 972-840-6800 for an appointment with our dentists for dental sealants in Garland, Texas. Dr. Jubliee Goel or Dr. Harpreet Sidhu can help ensure a lifetime of great oral health.
Dental sealants are made of a clear resin that is applied to the chewing surfaces of your molars and premolars. These sealants provide an extra layer of protection for those teeth, preventing food particles, plaque and bacteria from damaging your smile. The process is a very simple one and can be completed in a single visit with our dentists. After cleaning your tooth, our dentists may apply a mild chemical to abrade the tooth’s surface. Then, the sealant will be applied and allowed to dry or cured with a special light. Once this is done, your tooth should be protected for up to 10 years. It is important to keep in mind that while sealants are very effective, they only protect the chewing surfaces of your molars and the treatment should not be considered a replacement for your regular home care routine. You should continue to brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day.
Sealants are most effective when applied soon after a tooth has erupted and are most often used for children between the ages 6 and 12. While the process is often considered a pediatric treatment, our dentists may suggest using sealants for adults who struggle with tooth decay. Contact us to learn more.
