The outer layer of your tooth is called the enamel and it is one of the strongest substances in nature. But as strong as it is, it can be worn away by the ingredients in your snacks, meals and drinks. Over time, the health of your smile can be compromised by this process. At Bright White Dental, our dentists, Dr. Jubliee Goel, Dr. Harpreet Sidhu, and our team offer fluoride treatments in Garland, Texas, to strengthen your enamel and your smile. Call 972-840-6800 today and one of our helpful team members can schedule your appointment.
Fluoride is a mineral that is found in the crust of the earth and in water supplies throughout the world. It is even present in some foods. In the 1930s, researchers discovered that children who drank naturally fluoridated water had lower rates of tooth decay than children who did not. Fluoride can control the amount of damage done when bacteria creates acid from sugary and starchy foods and drinks and can restore lost phosphate and calcium to your smile
Fluoride can be administered during an office visit in the form of a gel, foam or varnish. There are also prescription rinses and toothpastes that can increase your level of fluoride. In some cases, the doctor may suggest using fluoride tablets. Regularly using a toothpaste, mouthwash or rinse with fluoride is an excellent way to make sure that your smile is protected.
If your local government fluoridates the water supply and you use a toothpaste containing fluoride, chances are you are getting enough. However, if you have concerns about the strength of your smile, call our office and schedule an appointment with our dentists. The most obvious indicator of a fluoride deficiency is the presence of tooth decay, although brittle bones can also be a sign of a problem.
