Oral Cancer Screenings
Each year, approximately 54,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with oral cancer, and just over 10,000 people will die of the disease. Since oral cancer can be difficult to detect, we recommend seeing our dentists and team for regular oral cancer screenings in Garland, Texas. Call Bright White Dental at 972-840-6800 to schedule your visit with Dr. Jubliee Goel or Dr. Harpreet Sidhu if you notice anything unusual about your smile.
Oral cancer can affect the soft tissues of your mouth, including your cheeks, lips, tongue, and the soft and hard palate. It may also affect the throat and sinuses. Some indicators of oral cancer can include:
- Discoloration in your oral tissues. These may be red or white patches of speckles
- Changes in the texture of your soft tissues, such as bumps or rough spots
- A constant sore throat or the feeling that something is caught in the back of your throat
- Oral bleeding that is not from a trauma
- Problems with normal oral functions
- A sore on your face, neck or in your mouth that shows no signs of healing
- Ear pain
- A change in the way your teeth come together or in the fit of your dentures
These symptoms may also be common to other oral or general health problems, and if you develop any of them, it is a good idea to contact our dentists for an oral cancer screening. Early detection is important since the sooner the problem is located, the more effective and less invasive the treatment will be. Often, the disease is not diagnosed until it is in its more advanced stages, making treatment more difficult.
In addition to seeing you for regular screenings, our dentists can talk with you about things you can do that may decrease your risk of developing oral cancer. We invite you to call our office for your screening so that you can continue to enjoy healthy smiles for life.
