Pocket Reduction Surgery
If you develop periodontitis, which is the advanced form of gum disease, our dentists may want to try a more aggressive form of treatment than a simple deep cleaning. Dr. Jubliee Goel or Dr. Harpreet Sidhu might suggest an appointment at Bright White Dental for pocket reduction surgery in Garland, Texas. If you are concerned about gum disease, call our office at 972-840-6800 to schedule a visit.
Pocket reduction surgery, also known as flap surgery or gingivectomy, attacks gum disease at its source: the bacteria and calculus stuck to the roots of your teeth. This treatment allows our dentists to reach these bacteria when other treatments would not be able to, helping improve your oral health and prevent more damage due to gum disease.
Pocket reduction surgery is fairly simple: First, our dentists will numb the area being worked on then gently pull back the gums, exposing the tooth roots. We will then remove as much of the bacteria as we can, administering an antimicrobial agent along with scaling and root planing to get your mouth as clean as possible. We will then suture your gums back to their regular position. You may experience some sensitivity after this procedure, but that should not last long, and you will be able to enjoy healthier teeth and gums within a few weeks.
